Gareth Southgate discusses Cole Palmer's participation with the England national team. The Chelsea player did not appear when his country played against Brazil and Belgium.
“It's a shame that Cole Palmer wasn't able to take part in enough training sessions so he wasn't able to feature (vs Belgium). In the remaining games, we want to see what (Anthony) Gordon and (James) Maddison can show. I can't rule out Cole (Palmer) for Euro 2024.”
“(Jack Grealish) can also still be in the squad. I spoke to him before deciding on the squad for this international break. “We don't feel he is in ideal physical condition to compete,” said Southgate, quoted by the Evening Standard.
Southgate's player selection is once again in the spotlight. Ben Chilwell – Chelsea left back – who has just recovered from injury, immediately appeared in two matches in a row. Chilwell will be examined ahead of his team's match against Burnley on Saturday (30/3) at Stamford Bridge.
Cole Palmer's condition will also be monitored considering that he received a collision which caused him to suffer a minor injury. Apart from that, Southgate was also criticized for the decision to field John Stones (Man City) and the player then suffered an injury.
