Not even a month has passed since its release and Dune 2 has already become the most successful film of all of 2024 so far. Both the public and critics have greatly praised Denis Villeneuve's sequel, although there is a very special one that will excite you more than all the previous ones: Steven Spielberg.
During the DGA's Director's Cut podcast, the American filmmaker revealed that he had already seen Dune 2 and he openly stated that it is one of the most brilliant science fiction films he has ever seen in his entire life. In turn, this film has confirmed, according to Spielberg, that Villeneuve fits squarely into a select list of directors who know how to build worlds from nothing.
“It's an honor for me to sit here and talk to you. Let me start by saying that there are filmmakers who are world builders. It's not a very long list and we know who many of them are. Starting with Méliès and Disney and Kubrick, George Lucas, etc… The list goes on, but it is not that long, and I deeply and fervently believe that you are one of its newest members.”
The director continues to praise Villeneuve's film, ensuring that although it is a film with sand as the protagonist, the central axis of the entire saga is water. Furthermore, Spielberg has gone crazy in color with the Sandworms, which for him are one of the most amazing things he has seen in a movie theater.
It is clear that Dune 2 It will be one of the big favorites at next year's Oscars, although it will have a more difficult time if it wants to become the highest-grossing film of 2024. The reason? A mercenary with a mouth and a mutant with adamantium claws will fight again this summer.
