This January 7, 2025, Valve announced that SteamOS will no longer be limited to the Steam Deck but will also be able to be installed on other laptops.
The person who revealed it was Pierre-Loup Griffais, one of the design heads of the Steam Deck and SteamOS, who announced that the beta for other platforms will begin beyond March. Once the tests are finished, the idea is to hope that this operating system will be available in the near future.
So far it is only confirmed that the Lenovo Legion Go S system will have Valve’s SteamOS and that will be in May 2025. Griffais did not elaborate on other platforms, nor did co-designer Lawrence Yang.
We recommend: Steam Deck will not have annual renewals because it would be unfair to consumers.
But before his recent statements, in August 2024, it came to light that there would be support for Asus ROG Ally controls. So it is very possible that this hardware can also run this operating system.

Something that should also be noted is that there are other tests, carried out by some users, based on Bazzite, a version derived from Valve’s Steam Deck system. This works very well on the Asus ROG Ally, much better than MS Windows according to some, and the same applies to the Lenovo Legion Go.
Many believe that it is ideal for SteamOS to be available for more devices, since it is a very solid and quite compatible system.
Some might think that Bazzite ‘competes’ with SteamOS, but according to Yang at Valve they are not against another version of this Steam Deck operating system. To the extent that Pierre-Loup Griffais considers it to be a great community project that delivers a lot of value to people.
Especially since it offers a similar experience on other devices at the moment. As you can see, the company prefers to handle everything openly.
