Over the years, the use of artificial intelligence has been becoming popular, this ranges from chatbots to image generators, which are increasingly more polished, which makes certain artists and writers tremble for fear of reaching to a point of evolution where they lose their profession. In fact, they are already experimenting with animation, and an anime product made with a large percentage of the tool will soon be released, leaving only small errors to humans.
The series is named after Twins HinaHima, a project from Tokyo-based studio KaKa Creation, which has used artificial intelligence (AI) to produce 95% of its content. Although technology played a central role in this work, a team of animators, art directors, photographers and visual effects specialists collaborated in the production to ensure a high-quality and consistent finish.
This tells the story of Himari and Hinana, two teenagers who, while dreaming of becoming influencers by recreating TikTok dances, find themselves dragged into an unknown world full of anomalies. This project has the participation of prominent figures such as Makoto Tezuka, son of the well-known Osamu Tezuka, and Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, animation director known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam. Although an exact date has not yet been announced, the premiere is scheduled for spring 2025.
The creation of Twins HinaHima marks a milestone in the use of AI within the entertainment industry, showing its ability to complement human labor and accelerate production processes. However, the raid also raises important questions about the impact of automation on the visual arts.
As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply integrated into projects, the opportunity arises to combine the best of both worlds: the precision and speed of technology with the unique sensitivity and vision of human talent. This balance will be crucial to ensuring that technological advances enrich, rather than replace, the artistic legacy that has defined Japanese animation for decades.
We will have to see the final product and see if they achieved something credible.
