2025 is here, a year that promises to be quite good in the world of video games with the launch of several long-awaited titles such as GTA VI and perhaps the Nintendo Switch 2. Since the spotlight is on games like the new title from Rockstar Games, or deliveries like Monster Hunter Wilds and Death Stranding 2, here we decided to go another route.

5 – The First Berserker: Khazan could be the first video game surprise of 2025
Practically since 2022, every year we have had a worthy representative of soulslike video games. This 2025 could be The First Berserker: Khazan. From its first gameplay previews, you can see the inspiration in the genre created by FromSoftware. Only here it looks much more brutal with magical elements and also with an aesthetic that reminds us of anime.

Its gameplay so far seems very entertaining and fast with the ability to switch between different melee and ranged weapons in a few seconds. 4 – Avowed
Curiously, we have not seen much attention paid to Avowed even though it is one of the video games that will arrive in 2025, which is why we decided to rescue it a little to try to put it on the radar of more players. After all, it is the most recent work from Obsidian Entertainment, who gave us the very entertaining Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds. With this pedigree alone it would be worth giving them the benefit of the doubt.

3 – Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii aims to be another of the memorable video games in this saga
The Like a Dragon series has had some pretty good installments over the last few years and this trend could continue with the crazy Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Perhaps the reason it doesn’t get more attention is because it really is a spin-off. However, this new parallel adventure starring Goro Majima looks very promising.

To begin with, it will give us everything we expect from this saga but combining it with an odyssey on the high seas that will have everything from naval combat, crew management and of course exploration of mysterious waters. Even its creators have already predicted that it will be an experience full of content that could entertain us for hours, although it will not be as long as Infinite Wealth. We already want to see what Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio does with the pirate genre.
2 – Mafia: The Old Country
The Mafia video games may not be as well known as those of Grand Theft Auto, but that does not mean that they are a criminal saga that is very worthwhile and its return could be one of the best games of 2025. After all, it will return to the origins of the saga with an experience more focused on its story and without as much filling in an unnecessary open world as Mafia 3 was.

Furthermore, its new setting in Sicily in the 1920s opens the doors to giving us an interesting story and mechanics that take advantage of the era. So far it has only one trailer, but after this and in addition to the excellent remake they did to its first installment, it is exciting to see what Hangar 13 is preparing with this return.
1 – Split Fiction excites us because of the past Hazelight video games
During The Game Awards Hazelight Studios revealed its new game which is called Split Fiction. The trailer looks very promising and we also cannot forget what the studio gave us in the past. Split Fiction will be a cooperative adventure where we take control of two writers who become trapped in worlds that jump from science fiction to fantasy, which will open the door to various and interesting mechanics.

Hazelight already demonstrated that it can provide unforgettable cooperative experiences with A Way Out and It Takes Two. They even took home several game of the year awards with the latter. So Split Second could be another new gem from this studio and that is why we should not leave it off our radar.
