To no one’s surprise, Valve’s portable console that has been gaining a lot of love among gamers has its own operating system called SteamOs, which has been talked about for quite some time, so that it is planned to move to other devices in the market. And now that the new Legion Go S has been introduced, it seems that Lenovo is the first company to go through this collaboration and addition.
The launch of the next console marks a milestone in the expansion of the aforementioned operating system, this towards devices beyond the Steam Deck. The incorporation of this in this portable model not only promises an optimized user experience for games, but also reinforces the Valve ecosystem with features such as cloud game synchronization, Remote Play and direct access to the store library.
The Legion Go S stands out for its portability and lightweight design, weighing just 730 grams. Equipped with an 8-inch PureSight WUXGA display, 16:10 aspect ratio and a 120 Hz refresh rate, this device aims to offer a high-quality visual experience. Additionally, the SteamOS operating system prioritizes an environment free of unnecessary applications and services, in contrast to traditional Windows-based setups.
Lenovo has announced that those interested in a more affordable experience will be able to opt for the version with said system, which will arrive in May 2025 at a price of $499, with 16 GB of RAM. This variant will allow players to access the essential functionalities of Steam without the complexity of other operating systems, positioning it as an attractive option for gaming enthusiasts.
For those looking for more power, the Legion Go S with AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 32 GB of RAM and Windows 11 will be available this month for $729. However, the focus on SteamOS stands out as a key step towards platform diversification and reinforces Valve’s commitment to the accessibility of its gaming ecosystem. This will make many rethink when making the purchase.
