After the success of Perfect Blue, which brought 50,000 spectators to the cinema last April, PAPRIKA – DREAMING A DREAM by Satoshi Kon (1963-2010), one of the most acclaimed masterpieces of Japanese animation, returns to the big screen for a special event from 17 to 19 February (list of sales coming soon on nexostudios.it and presales open from 16 January). Presented as a world premiere at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival in 2006, Paprika is based on the novel of the same name by Yasutaka Tsutsui and represents a milestone in the history of cinematographic art and the collective imagination.
Distributed for the first time in Italian cinemas in 2007 and awarded multiple awards internationally, the film is universally recognized as one of the best works of the late Satoshi Kon, an eccentric and visionary cult director, who played a crucial role for all his colleagues in his generation and became known throughout the world for masterpieces such as Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers. Thanks to its unique vision and bold style, Paprika has profoundly influenced contemporary cinema, inspiring internationally renowned directors and becoming a reference for works such as Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
Set in the near future, Paprika tells the story of Dr. Atsuko Chiba and her dream alter ego Paprika. Thanks to the DC Mini, a technology that allows you to explore other people’s dreams, the film tackles profound themes such as identity, the subconscious and the boundaries between reality and imagination. The work stands out for its innovative narrative and extraordinary animation, which transports the viewer into an unprecedented dream universe that today appears more contemporary than ever.
The soundtrack is signed by Susumu Hirasawa.
The new Anime Season at the Cinema is an exclusive project by Nexo Studios. The PAPRIKA – SOGNANDO UN SOGNO appointment is distributed in collaboration with the media partners Radio DEEJAY, Lucca Comics & Games, Cultura POP, MYmovies, ANiME GENERATION.
