While leaks of alleged Nintendo Switch 2 parts continue to appear in times where AI can simulate almost everything, a Nintendo patent related to upscaling or DLSS-style scaling technology has now emerged.
That is, based on the deep learning supersampling developed by Nvidia for its products. The record in question is nothing new, but was archived in July 2023.
However, its publication was only on December 31, 2024 and that is why its existence could be known. This patent, which could apply to the Nintendo Switch 2, describes a machine learning system that can convert images from one resolution to a higher resolution.
We recommend: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would have its Nintendo Switch 2 version.
It sounds similar to DLSS that uses Artificial Intelligence, the PSSR that the PS5 Pro has implemented or even AMD’s FSR, which have similar functions.

Previous reports suggested that the Nintendo Switch 2 would use DLSS technology in its next system and this patent would support them.
According to journalist Laura Kate Dale, the new patent mentions that it uses scaling technology to reduce the average size for a modern video game to fit into a ‘small capacity physical medium’, that is, the game cards used by the console. This is certainly a priority for Nintendo.
Perhaps the most interesting piece of this, after a lengthy read, is that one example use case given is explicitly to reduce overall game sizes, to fit a modern game onto “smaller capacity physical media”, e.g. Switch carts, which get exponentially more expensive for larger cart capacities.

According to this reporter ‘the example given is that a game with native 4K textures could need a 60GB download, but a native 1080 version would only need 20GB…’.
Laura Kate Dale goes on to say ‘(…)this would allow it to fit on a 32GB Switch card, the current maximum size Nintendo produces for the first Switch.’ She finishes by saying ‘the idea is to do a 4X upscaling on the device in real time’.

Is this information official? At least one patent can be considered this way but it remains to be seen if it is applied to the new Nintendo console or not. Regarding this, we have leaks from companies that make accessories and an important change that it would have with respect to the original model.
