The commercial failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League continues to impact the industry. On this occasion, it has been revealed that multiple employees of Rocksteady, the studio responsible for this title, were laid off at the end of 2024, something that increases the number of unemployed people in the company.
According to Eurogamer, half a dozen members of the programming team, QA, and artists were laid off during the final weeks of 2024, as their positions have been “redundant.” This shouldn’t come as a big surprise, since it was reported in September of this last year that numerous Rocksteady employees had been laid off in the previous month, including their quality assurance department, which was cut by more than half, from 33 to 15 employees.
Let’s remember that Rocksteady worked for almost a decade on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but once the title hit the market, it was received with negative reviews and sales that called into question the stability of the studio. Currently, the developers are working on the latest update for this title. Following this, the team is expected to work on both a project completely, while at the same time providing support for Hogwarts Legacy: Director’s Cut, a title that has not yet been announced.
For the moment, we have to wait to see what the future of Rocksteady will be. On related topics, this is why Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failed. Likewise, Amazon has already given away this game.
Author’s Note:
It is a real shame that all the work that made a game possible, regardless of its quality, is discarded at the slightest provocation from a director. For executives, these are just numbers, but the human cost must not be forgotten.
