It’s been over 15 years since Minecraft was released. Even after all this time, this is still one of the most popular games in all of history. While Microsoft, who currently own the property, seems to have no intention of making a sequel, Markus “Notch” Persson, its creator, seems ready to shape Minecraft 2.
Through his social networks, Notch shared a message where he revealed that he is ready to return to video game development, and he will do this through a spiritual sequel to Minecraft. This is what he said about it:
“It basically announced Minecraft 2.
I thought maybe people REALLY want me to make another game that’s very similar to the first one, and I’d love to work on games again.
I don’t care exactly which game I make first (or even if I make more), but I know I’m making one, so I thought I’d be absolutely willing to give it an honest chance in the form of a spiritual successor to Minecraft and put up a poll about it .
My intentions are to be clear and honest about this, saying that spiritual successors are usually a kind of… you know… rehash. Tragic. I’m going to try to avoid that, but I take it seriously. I think I will do what people DO want and are willing to give me, somehow, even MORE money.”

At the moment there is no more information about this project. At this time, Minecraft remains a property of Microsoft. Let us remember that in 2014, the year in which Notch sold Mojang to the parents of Xbox for $2.5 billion dollars, the developer abandoned Minecraft, and although it has been working on small projects, none reached the popularity of this construction title.
With this in mind, Minecraft 2 is just a way to make clear his plans for this new project, since he is actually working on a game with similar ideas to Minecraft, but that is not actually related to this world. We can only wait to see what Notch’s plans are with this new and ambitious game. On related topics, here you can see the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie. Likewise, the film’s director defends this film.
Author’s Note:
Notch promises a lot by saying that it is working on Minecraft 2. This is something that raises expectations substantially, and while the developer has the potential to make this a reality, there is no guarantee that it will deliver on its promise.
