Makoto Shinkai prepares a new film! December 31, 2024 was a special moment for the creators, on the one hand, Nanashi (Ijiranaide, Nagatori-san) announced a new serialization, and on the other, the director of Your Name and Suzume no Tojimari provided shocking information.
Makoto Shinkai has a script ready for a new movie.
On his social networks, Makoto Shinkai said goodbye to 2024, thanked the fans for their support, and also generously mentioned that he is ready to make a new project in 2025.
Happy new year! For me, 2024 was a year spent working on new movies. It’s a great joy to work with my friends to create a new world that no one has ever seen before, starting from scratch. I will do my best to let you know in some form this year. I hope 2025 will be a peaceful year for everyone.

Although Makoto Shinkai did not reveal details about the story, given the previous production we could have several suspicions about what awaits us.
On the one hand, Makoto Shinkai’s new film could bet on a new romance crossed by fantasy. Probably the underworld of Agartha would be present far behind the main narrative thread, as would the idea of destiny and the red thread, very Japanese.
Makoto Shinkai’s films have been a success and without a doubt, the new one will have high expectations. However, there is still a lot to review before the project provides more timely information, at least everything will be up and running soon.

Remember that Suzume no Tojimari (2022) is currently available on the Crunchyroll platform and on Netflix.
You can watch Journey to Agartha on MAX.
Your Name is one of Makoto Shinkai’s most important titles, along with 5 Centimeters Per Second and The Garden of Words.
Recently, the director’s films suffered cancellation in South Korea. Suzume was planned to be on national television by the end of the year, however, due to strong criticism, the screening was cancelled.
This is due to the anti-Japanese presence of some South Koreans.
