Batman’s origin story is undoubtedly among the best known in the comics, television and cinema scene. The death of the Wayne spouses has been revived in different forms and, therefore, fans are wondering if these origins will be revived again for the new Dark Knight of the DCU by James Gunn.
The latter, co-administrator and creative director of DC Studios, recently declared in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes that there are no plans to show the origins of the Bat-Man on the big screen again:
Batman already exists in this universe, and the same thing concerns Superman since in the new film starring him the Man of Steel already exists, he is already known by the people of Metropolis. We don’t need to hear the origin story again.
The character made a cameo in a recent episode of Creature Commandos, with the director explaining that this appearance served to make viewers understand that Batman is part of this universe. Despite this cameo, Gunn specified that the character is not yet ready to be shown in detail:
When they first showed me the episode, Batman was much more visible. I pointed this out, saying that the character wasn’t ready and that only the silhouette needed to be shown.
The film starring the Batman of the DCU is titled The Brave and the Bold and should be directed by The Flash director Andy Muschietti. Also featuring the Gotham Crusader is The Batman – Part 2, a sequel to The Batman which was recently postponed to 2027.
