Time flew by and we are already in a new year. Believe it or not, this 2025 will mark five years since the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5 hit the market.
What promised to be a generation with a great graphical leap where 4K and 60fps would be the norm simply remained that, a promise. Well, this generation has been marked by remasters, remakes and ports to previous generations. But 2025 with all its offer of new games could finally make these consoles achieve their maximum potential.
In the middle of 2025 we continue to see versions of games for the last generation
At the beginning of the generation, several titles were announced that were supposed to be exclusive to PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. However, over time, several decided to also have ports for past generations. Right now, 2025 seems like it could be the year where this trend of releasing ports to past generations could disappear. After all, many of the most anticipated games of the year will only come out for Xbox Series and PS5. GTA VI is one of the titles that generates the most excitement in the community and so far it is only confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series, so it will surely boost the sale of these consoles.
Also titles like Death Stranding 2 and Doom The Dark Ages, which generate quite a bit of excitement, are exclusive to the new generation of consoles. So far there are no plans to bring them to the last generation. Even new remakes like Silent Hill 2 and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta aim to use Unreal Engine 5 for near-realistic graphic quality. None of them have their PS4 or Xbox One version so far. This is really what studios should do from now on, focus on the new. We have nothing against the past generation, but we cannot move forward if we continue looking to the past.
There are already some games that show the potential, this 2025 should fully unleash it
Although this generation has not had many titles to show its value, it has had some unmissable gems that made use of its novelties. Among these we can find Alan Wake 2, which has some of the best graphics currently, in addition to the fact that in gameplay it could change scenarios in a matter of seconds and without loading screens.
We also have Hellblade 2, which despite being criticized for its short duration, cannot be denied the level of detail in its visual section and even in its 3D audio that allowed more immersion in its world. We really do have several examples of what this generation of consoles can achieve, but it is time for them to really take flight and exploit it in 2025.
