Meta continues to improve its messaging app and now, starting January 1, 2025, these older Android phones will no longer be able to use the WhatsApp app.
Devices more than 10 years old that still work with Android KitKat will say goodbye to WhatsApp.
On January 1, 2025, WhatsApp will leave these Android phones
Smartphones that still work with that version of the operating system or earlier will no longer have access to WhatsApp from January 1, 2025.
According to Meta, putting these old devices aside is to continue with the evolution of WhatsApp features and functionalities. Meta seeks to implement more demanding features, AI functionalities and many more functions that require more modern hardware.

If for some strange reason you use one of these smartphones or know someone who does, it is better to make a backup copy of all WhatsApp data on a newer device. Otherwise, all your WhatsApp chat and media history will disappear starting January 1, 2025.
Remember that older iPhones will also stop using the Messages app. So if you have a device with iOS prior to version 15.1, you will have to change it. However, Meta will maintain support for these devices until May 2025.
