The social network X (formerly known as Twitter) has increased the price of its paid plan. The X Premium subscription allowed you to explore the platform (almost) without ads, have extended access to its artificial intelligence functions and carry the blue verification label. This service was priced at $16 per month, making it $168 per year.
Through an official announcement on the platform, price the service has experienced since its implementation in October 2023.
The company justified this significant price increase by offering new improvements, compared to the previous plan.
For starters, the service will finally be completely ad-free. With the previous service, although the main feeds were free of advertisers, they could still be found when accessing certain sections such as user profiles or reply threads. This will finally come to an end and subscribers of this service will be free from annoying ads.
On the other hand, Premium will offer you early access to future experimental features on the platform, in addition to increasing your usage rates of Grok, X’s artificial intelligence.
Finally, they clarified that part of the subscription cost will go towards paying the platform’s content creators, which they promise will create financial incentives for “twitterers” to create higher quality content.
The price increase to the Premium subscription is another controversial move in the social network’s long list of questionable decisions. It remains to be seen how the user base will react to these changes and whether the price increase will scare away potential new subscribers. We also hope that the promises of a better X are fulfilled and can justify these very high prices.
