As much as we love the video game industry, the reality is that it is quite far from being perfect. It even seems that in recent years it has gotten worse in several aspects. From what seems like endless waves of layoffs, to games that don’t deliver what they promise, to some anti-consumer decisions, there’s a lot that can be improved.
That is why we bring you this top 5 with those industry trends that should end in 2025 to have a more favorable outlook.
Bad practices in the video game industry that we no longer want to see:
5 – Stop deleting video games so that no one can enjoy them anymore
In recent years it seems that the physical format is giving its last legs because people already prefer to consume video games digitally. However, in recent years we also saw that this could be counterproductive. Especially since we don’t really own what we buy, we simply pay licenses to use these games.

But just as Ubisoft tried with The Crew and other games that have disappeared due to licensing issues, we are at risk of not being able to enjoy some titles anymore. Companies should take more action to ensure our gaming heritage is safer. Because no one wants to think about a day when the servers go down, even though they say it will never happen. But if that day comes, we don’t want to see our collections disappear.
4 – Stop thinking that money is more important than fun
It is well known that video games are a business and as such their main objective is to generate income for their respective creators. Unfortunately, companies already seem to set very high financial goals. Only in 2024 did we see the effects of this type of thinking. Well, the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown studio was dismantled after its game did not sell as expected. And that is one of the best in this saga and also a great title of the year.

We also saw it with Tango Gameworks and its closure after the ‘failure’ of Hi-Fi Rush, which was a title much loved by the community. However, money spoke. While companies should support more risky and fun things instead of just thinking about the numbers, it’s also an invitation to gamers to support what’s out of the ordinary. If not, a vicious circle is formed.
In fact, Krafton already mentioned it when he saved Tango from death. It’s not so much about the money, but rather sending the message that creativity should come first and foremost when creating video games. If they make a fun and attractive title, players will not hesitate to buy it
3 – No longer allow video games to be released in incomplete states
In this aspect, fortunately we see more common for players to raise their voices and warn the rest of the community when a game is not what it really promised at its launch. However, there are still companies that continue with these practices that frankly should disappear now. No one wants to spend their money on a game they were looking forward to only to find that it is virtually unplayable.
Suicide Squad was unplayable for the first three days of early access. Star Wars Outlaws erased the progress of everyone who gave it a chance in the first place. That’s just in 2024, but we find many such examples in the current generation.

It seems that meeting fiscal years or matching dates that bring in more sales is more important than letting developers finish their vision. What’s worse is that it’s the latter who get fired instead of the honchos who made the decision to release broken games in the first place.
2 – No longer saturate the market with more games as a service
Not all games as a service are bad, in fact there are some very good and surprising ones where it doesn’t hurt to put money into them. But everyone now wants to get on the trend and this is causing havoc in the industry. The market is becoming more and more saturated with these types of experiences and really, who has so much time and money to be investing in so many at the same time?
Not to mention, many simply copy what others are doing without really offering anything to differentiate them from the competition. We already saw it with Concord, which became one of the worst failures in video games precisely because it was a game as a service without anything really new.

Perhaps the worst thing is when they take beloved intellectual properties that work well on their own and try to make them as a service. Better give new installments to those sagas so missed by fans instead of giving us the Overwatch or Destiny clone number 3687.
1 – Focus more on taking advantage of the current generation
Time flew by but we are already going to celebrate five years in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S console generation. Unfortunately in all this time there are not many games that really take advantage of its improvements. Several of the titles we have so far have even had their versions for the previous generation and really at a graphic level there are few experiences that really look very different from the previous generation.

Add to this that, especially on the PlayStation side, there is a proliferation of remakes and remasters that feel quite unnecessary. Almost 5 years later, it is a good time to really take advantage of your hardware with games that make the most of it. Otherwise this generation could go down in history as one of the most unnecessary.
These are just some of our wishes for video games in 2025 and surely those of many of you who, like us, are fans of this medium and want the best for it. What did you think of our top? What else would you like to see change in the industry in 2025? Tell us in the comments!
