Everyone forgets that otaku are usually avid readers. Maybe not classical literature, but they consume a lot of manga, so they are able to read super fast and understand different contexts. Yes, we otaku read a lot, although if one of your New Year’s resolutions is to read even more, here are some recommendations that you won’t regret.
To begin with, it is always dynamic to read stories. Yes, they are usually more complicated to follow and require voracious and energetic readers. At the end of the day, story anthologies change the tone and characters at every moment, each piece is a new dive in which you must take risks, very different from a novel that gives you one story or multiple stories in the “same” frame.
Despite the above, the stories are short-lived texts and taking this into account, I tell you that each one could bring you closer to other readings. And for this reason, I recommend short stories that might fascinate you. Without further ado, I’ll give you the authors.
Nefando by Mónica Ojeda (novel).Green, Red, Orange by Mariana Enríquez (story in the anthology The Things We Lost in the Fire).Mitosis by Ítalo Calvino (story in the anthology Las Cosmicómicas). The Micro Era by Cixin Liu ( story in the anthology The Wandering Earth).
The selected readings have to do with science fiction or focus on a gamer, otaku or hikkikomori, so they will have something to tell you. If you take a look at our selection of readings for New Year 2025, I hope you tell us what you think!
We recommend: New manga will have a Latina protagonist and the burning stereotypes will not be long in coming.

Literature? And well, some poetry for otaku in the New Year?
The Almadía publishing house already has a reputation for its labels that are as pop as they are open to the world, so it is no surprise that this half-“empty” idea comes from its hand, but embraces marginality, and also, intense and with different cavities. An invitation to otaku to read more in this New Year!
We recommend: 5 micro anime to enjoy your 10 otaku minutes in the office.
Paola Llamas released a small collection of poems that will make you think about your otakucity on several levels, from seeing yourself, to connecting with your favorite characters and the ways in which you interact with them. The book is called “Poems for Otakus.” Are you prepared to take the risk in this New Year 2025?
