John Wick has become one of the most successful products in pop culture, this is because the films manage to connect with all types of audiences, given that it has top-notch actors such as Keanu Reeves himself, a mass idol. For that reason, the spinoffs were not long in coming, and so next year we will see Ballerina, a spinoff with one of the characters that has captured the attention of a large part of the audience.
Ana de Armas shines in the new trailer where the Spanish-Cuban actress plays Eve Macarro, a relentless young woman with a thirst for revenge that will lead her to face a world full of enemies and secrets. The plot follows Eve as she searches for those responsible for her father’s death, delving into the deadly network of assassins at the Alta Mesa and the iconic Continental Hotel.
In the trailer, Macarro demonstrates lethal abilities that position her as a worthy successor to Wick’s legacy. Trained as a child in the Ruska Roma, Eve crosses paths with the legendary assassin played by Keanu Reeves, who makes a special appearance in the film alongside other well-known faces such as Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick, reprising their roles as Winston and Charon.
Here you can see it:
Directed by Len Wiseman, Ballerina does not seek to be a female version of the main series, but rather its own story that enriches the universe of the franchise. The director highlights that the film maintains the essence of the saga but gives Eve her own personality and motives. “This is not a female John Wick,” says Wiseman, clarifying that Eve’s narrative arc focuses on her evolution as an assassin and her quest for personal justice.
The trailer also reveals that the events occur parallel to those of Parabellum, connecting perfectly with the main story. Although Eve had a brief appearance in that installment, she now takes center stage. With a stellar cast and a visual offering that combines stylized action with personal drama, the film promises to be an exciting expansion of one of the most acclaimed universes.
