“the postponement of sequels is not such a rare thing in the world of cinema…” thus practically opens one of James Gunn’s latest social declarations, released on his Threads profile, which continues with the list of some illustrious examples: Alien, Avatar and many other projects that required years and years of patience between chapters.
What is the purpose of making such a statement? Very simple: to announce the postponement of The Batman 2, one of the projects that fans of the DC universe await with greatest trepidation and which, unfortunately, will not arrive in cinemas around the world within the hoped-for times.
“a gap of 5 years or more is quite common in sequels. 7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years among The Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatar. 36 years between Top Guns. And of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.”
The film, according to Gunn’s latest statements, will therefore arrive in cinemas on October 1, 2027. Will it finally be the definitive release date? This is what fans hope for after having witnessed an endless series of postponements: fortunately, the most ardent admirers of DC Comics can console themselves with the first Superman trailer, which should not suffer any more delays than announced.
