Tony Vinciquerra, CEO of Sony Pictures, expressed annoyance that the films focused on Spider-Man villains are not succeeding and more than one is a resounding failure. Although Venom stands out from the others, it is not the same case as Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter.
The latter in particular has only grossed around $46 million at the box office, when in reality it cost more than $110 million. It’s a real mega bomb.
Vinciquerra admitted as much and said it’s ‘probably the worst launch we’ve had in seven and a half years.’ Despite that, consider that this Spider-Man spin-off is not bad. He even says ‘it didn’t turn out very well, which I still don’t understand, because the movie isn’t bad.’

Instead of taking into account the quality of this film, he prefers to blame the press and especially the specialized critics. That also applies to another film, that of Madame Web.

The CEO of Sony Pictures noted ‘Madame Web didn’t do well in theaters because the press crucified her. It wasn’t a bad movie and it did great on Netflix.’
Tony Vinciquerra stated ‘for some reason, the press decided they didn’t want us to make these Kraven and Madame Web films, and the critics just destroyed them.’ It seems he doesn’t even consider the possibility that they were bad Spider-Man spin-off movies.
Vinciquerra noted ‘they also did it with Venom, and the audience loved it and made it a success. They are not terrible films. They were just destroyed by press critics for some reason.’ In that sense, only the first Venom movie has been the most successful, and those that followed raised less money.

Despite what this executive said, there is a pause in this series of spin-offs, and it is confirmed that Kraven the Hunter will be the last. Unless plans change again.
