In a series of statements Remedy Entertainment announced that Alan Wake 2 and Control sharing facts and situations is only the beginning. In fact, this shared universe is ‘just getting started’.
The person who revealed it was Sam Lake, creative director of the studio, during an interview. It should be noted that the studio’s games have always had easter eggs that connect them, but in the case of the titles mentioned at the beginning they go further.
Lake, when talking about what’s coming after Alan Wake 2 and Control, commented ‘I love putting these things together’, and went on to say ‘I love deepening and expanding the story.’
We recommend: Alan Wake 2 contains a clear reference to Control 2 in its most recent DLC.
This creative highlighted ‘I really feel like it’s an opportunity to take these threads that we’ve put there, expand them and consider different ideas. It’s really exciting.’ This is why he later made it clear that it is something that will continue within the studio.

But Sam Lake stressed that like Alan Wake 2 and Control they must be titles with developed stories. That’s why he stated ‘and the way we see it is that every game should be fun on its own and stand on its own…’.
To the above, he added ‘(…)but then, for our followers, for people who have been playing other Remedy video games, we want to include a lot of content so that they can discover the history of the ongoing universe.’
Lake also explained that he hopes new players will try out their most current games and then move on to older ones to ‘go deeper down the rabbit hole.’ While the links between Alan Wake 2 and Control are clear, it remains to be seen how those of other titles will be handled.
These are the cases of FBC: Firebreak, which will be released in 2025, and Control 2, in addition to the remakes of the first two Max Payne video games.
