With so many years in the industry, Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the most important designers in the industry, but even he recognizes that he has made a series of setbacks in his career, although many do not consider it that way. In this way, it has been revealed that the creator of the most famous plumber in the world regrets a certain aspect in Super Mario Sunshine.
Recently, the user known as Shmuplations took on the task of translating and recovering old interviews in Japanese, something that has kept some information away from Western audiences. One of his most recent works was an interview with Miyamoto in 2002, where he talks about how he regrets making Super Mario Sunshine harder than necessary. This is what the developer commented at the time:
“I want Mario to be a game that all audiences can enjoy. Something that grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, even little kids, can easily pick up and play, and immediately understand how fun it is. However, I think Mario Sunshine turned out to be difficult for the average user. It’s something I regret very much. “I want someone who hasn’t played a game in over 10 years to play our game, but I don’t think that person would know what’s going on in Mario Sunshine.”
Although today Super Mario Sunshine is fondly remembered by all those who enjoyed this adventure on the GameCube, Miyamoto’s comments reflect the reality that existed at that time, and that is that the summer adventure is somewhat complicated for those who They are not used to 3D platformers, especially if you want to complete everything that this title offers us.
Since then, every Mario game has been easy to understand, fulfilling Miyamoto’s goal, but still being a refined experience in every possible way. On related topics, this was going to be the original visual style in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Likewise, Mario and Luigi do appear in Ocarina of Time.
Author’s Note:
Super Mario Sunshine is a great game. This was my first Mario in 3D, and although it was somewhat complicated in my childhood, it was also impossible. It is a good challenge, although completing it 100% is somewhat more difficult than it should be.
