Metaphor: ReFantazio is certainly one of the standout games of this 2024 coming to an end. After the success of the Persona series, the new Studio Zero IP was well received in general, with many awards won at The Game Awards 2024 (here is the general summary of the ceremony) including best narrative, best artistic direction and best RPG. Katsura Hashino, author and director of the game, however, has a nice wish about it.
In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu (via Persona Central), in response to some users who asked if Metaphor: ReFantazio will ever have a sequel, Hashino admitted that he has some ideas about the direction he would like to take if the studio decides to continue to push ourselves further after its success.
The author also revealed that he would like to create a sequel set in a specific historical period, namely the Sengoku one. Despite the ideas already in circulation, he points out that at the moment “there are no concrete plans to transform Metaphor into a series”, but he hopes that “one day it can become one in all respects”, given that the project was born with the aim of create a third JRPG series alongside Shin Megami Tensei and Persona.
We’ll see if in the future Studio Zero will officially decide to grant Hashino’s wish and therefore create a sequel to Metaphor: ReFantazio. For the moment all we have to do is refer you to the review of the JRPG by Atlus and Studio Zero.
