We are facing a new era of the DC universe films, which will begin in 2025 with the long-awaited Superman film, where we are going to see a facet of the character’s beginnings, but it is not about the origin as such, but rather the first confrontations against villains. The same will happen with the hero’s cousin, Supergirl, as she will also have her film where recognized talents from the world of acting in Hollywood are gradually joining.
Jason Momoa, recognized for his role as Aquaman, has been confirmed as Lobo for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The announcement was made official by Warner Bros and DC, in addition to being supported by the actor himself on social networks, where he expressed his enthusiasm for playing the iconic antihero, and confirming that for now he is not leaving this comic book movie universe.
Lobo, a character characterized by his violent, irreverent nature and his origin on the planet Czarnia, is one of the most popular antiheroes. Gifted with superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and a destructive attitude, he has been a desired role for Momoa for years. In an Instagram post, the actor shared comments from past interviews where he expressed his interest, accompanied by the legend: “They called.”
For now, the plot of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is being kept secret, but it is known that the film will be based on the 2022 comic series by Tom King, with illustrations by Bilquis Evely. The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie from a script by Ana Nogueira, and will feature Milly Alcock in the lead role of Supergirl and Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill. Production is scheduled to begin on January 13.
The casting of Momoa as Lobo marks an interesting move in DC’s creative direction under James Gunn and Peter Safran. With this role, the actor takes a significant turn in his career, moving away from the traditional heroism of Aquaman to immerse himself in the chaotic and unbridled nature of this new villain.
The film is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2026.
