Yesterday the first trailer for the new Superman movie was finally released, which is precisely the reboot of the DC film universe, this after said timeline did not end up fitting with disastrous projects like The Flash, Black Adam, among other productions. And it is worth mentioning that the initial reception has been positive, more than anything because of the name of the director, James Gunn, who wasted no time in giving more details about the project.
Gunn has given fans an exciting update, confirming that it will integrate John Williams’ iconic theme, an alternate timeline and a completely revamped take on the Man of Steel mythology. During the trailer launch event, he highlighted that his approach seeks to move away from traditional superhero narratives. “We are adopting the entire mythology of Superman,” explained , who seeks to build a universe where superheroes already exist and are intertwined with a fantasy world.
They mention that here Superman is not just an isolated hero, but part of an environment full of “gods and monsters.” It imagines a world where iconic elements like the Fortress of Solitude, the flying dog Krypto, and the superhero friends feel as real as human relationships. This approach, according to Gunn, fills a void left by previous adaptations, offering a faithful yet innovative version of the classic comic book mythology.
In addition, he defended the return of the classic blue, red and yellow suit, including the iconic red trunks. According to the director, this design is not only a tribute to the original creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, but it has an emotional reason: “It’s an alien who doesn’t want children to be afraid of him.” He says this detail highlights Clark’s heart and humanity, characteristics that lead actor David Corenswet managed to convey.
The film also shined in its musical treatment, combining a classic score with John Williams’ 1978 theme. Gunn expressed his admiration for the work and his desire to connect the past with the future. Inspired by Superman’s legacy, they say this story is not a comedy like the director’s other works, but rather an exploration of human relationships and differences in perspective.
Remember that it premieres on July 11, 2025 in theaters.
