The Google maps application will gain a number of new features, thanks to its integration with the Waze road application. A few months ago, Google Maps had received an update that visually redesigned the interface. Specifically, it improved the presentation of bars representing traffic so that it is easier, faster and more intuitive to detect areas with high vehicle congestion.
During this announcement, the company announced that it would add road information integration from the popular Waze app in the future.
It seems that the future is today, since Google has kept its promise and has implemented a series of improvements to both Maps and Waze. The two applications will go hand in hand with a series of new functions that will allow you to report and receive important information on the road.
All traffic information will be shared between the platforms, meaning that no matter which App you use, you will always have the maximum amount of information available courtesy of both communities. That is, all reports on car traffic, accidents and other unforeseen events shared in Waze will also appear in Maps and vice versa.
During the official announcement of this collaboration, the Waze team said that “we are excited for more drivers to see the reports coming from Waze.”
They added that “this would not be possible without our partnership with Geo, where we aim to bring the most comprehensive map data to all drivers through two-way data sharing.”
Although this deep collaboration between both applications may surprise many, it must be remembered that, although Waze began as an independent application created by a small Israeli team, it was acquired in 2013 by the Silicon Valley titan for approximately 13 million dollars.
Currently, Waze has a respectable 151 million active users, while Google Maps has a whopping 2 billion monthly users.
