The first 20, latest generation compactors, were presented today in Piazzale Pino Pascali
Rome, 11 October 2024 – There will be 373 new Ama vehicles arriving within the next six months. The first 20, latest generation compactors, were presented today, in Piazzale Pino Pascali in the V Municipality, by the Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, accompanied by the Councilor for Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle Sabrina Alfonsi, by the President of Ama SpA Bruno Manzi and by the General Director Alessandro Filippi.
In detail, they will be operational on Roman roads 337 heavy vehicles used for bin collection and emptying activities, 17 vehicles for washing streets and bins (equipped with high-pressure watering machines), 10 vehicles for the transport and repositioning of the bins and 9 sweepers.
Furthermore, between July and August 72 light vehicles had already entered service. At present, the Ama operational fleet can count on a total of 1,735 collection and sweeping vehicles (866 light, 634 heavy, 235 sweepers). The investment is part of the 2023-2028 multi-year Industrial Plan.
“We are redeveloping the fleet – declared Gualtieri – we have a stable 80% of vehicles in working order. With the reduction of the average age, electric, biogas and eco-friendly vehicles that break down less, Ama is making a huge leap in quality. We are increasing investments from 20 to 200 million per year. The improvement in the quality of service is visible. We hired 1200 young people. We considered waste the initial priority, now we can’t say it’s solved but we can deal with other problems.”
“Having new means – added Manzi – means redefining the collection, the supply chain, changing the quality of life of workers. This is the continuation of a renewal that the company is carrying out. The results can be seen, a further step is the Jubilee, towards the new Ama”.
The new vehicles, explained the general manager Alessandro Filippi, will also serve to increase door-to-door activity: “To make Ama work you need three things – he said – vehicles, men and systems. The means are fundamental for us, the human resources have arrived and we are also completing the awarding phase on the plants. This will allow us to intensify waste separation, a fundamental step to pursue.”
In this regard, Councilor Alfonsi explained that “on waste separation we went from 44 percent when we arrived to 48, in June 2024; we hope to reach 50 very soon. There has been a lot of growth; we will reach the objectives of the waste plan, which were already challenging, sooner than expected”. (Photo: comune.roma.it)
