The rain seems to have become attached to the development tests of Pirelli tires for F1 in this last quarter of 2024.
After last week at Magny-Cours both days were characterized by complicated weather conditions to say the least, the session that began today at the Mugello circuit also saw rain as a major protagonist since the early hours of the morning.
Furthermore, the poor visibility around the Tuscan circuit prevented the air ambulance from being able to take off for a long time and, consequently, the cars were practically unable to run for the whole day.

Today’s program was divided into two parts. Red Bull, which fielded its reserve driver Liam Lawson who will drive for the Visa CashApp RB team from the next US Grand Prix, had the task of working on finalizing the compounds for 2025.
McLaren, however, which had Lando Norris on the track at the wheel of a mule car, had to test for the first time the prototypes of the tires that will be used starting from 2026, i.e. with a rim diameter (18″) unchanged compared to to the current generation of single-seaters while the width and external diameter are slightly smaller, both on the front and rear axle.
The tests will continue tomorrow, weather permitting. The two teams present today, who will use the same drivers, will also be joined by Scuderia Ferrari who, with Charles Leclerc, will also be working on tires for next year.
