There is no harder working team in the world than the two teams within Nintendo: their first party game development team and their legal team. For the second one, Nintendo’s legal team is known to be super tough in protecting the various IPs owned by Nintendo, with wins at the court table also often occurring. Even though this action is always seen in a negative light by many parties, especially fans, as an “old-fashioned” approach, Nintendo remains unmoved. After the Nintendo Switch Emulator – Yuzu became a victim some time ago, now another Nintendo Switch emulator – Ryujinx is the target.
That’s right, the Nintendo Switch emulator which was thought to be safe after the Yuzu – Ryujinx case is also officially dead. However, unlike Yuzu where Nintendo acted harshly, Ryujinx’s death was confirmed through an agreement between Nintendo and the developer – gdkchan. There are no details on whether this deal was a “threat” or monetary compensation, but gdkchan decided to shut down Ryujinx completely. Ryujinx will no longer be developed, the organization is officially gone, and all assets under gdkchan’s control will be removed. At the time of writing, Ryujinx’s Github page and the accounts associated with it had disappeared.
Neither Nintendo nor gdkchan themselves have spoken openly about what kind of agreement they reached. One thing is certain, just like what happened with Yuzu, Ryujinx’s death is also proof of Nintendo’s “victory” over the emulation process which is of course worrying. What do you think of this situation?
