Guest of the Trans7 MotoGP podcast, Dorna Sports manager Carlos Ezpeleta spoke on a hot topic that will probably be discussed by the organizer and the teams already during the next race weekend scheduled for Motegi.
According to the rumors that have circulated so far, the intention would be to freeze the engines at the beginning of 2025 until 2026. “This is a proposal we presented, but which has not yet been approved by the manufacturers. It will concern those manufacturers who are not included in class D of concessions”, admitted the manager.
“We believe it is an excellent strategy, a way to give manufacturers the opportunity to focus on the new engines and new motorcycles that will be developed for 2027,” he then explained the reasons for a possible similar measure.
“We are very happy with the direction taken by the regulation, both in terms of the final result and how it was written in the result itself. This innovation could be considered a sort of preparation for the new rules, therefore, the hope is that the ok will be given soon. It should be positive for sport,” he underlined with satisfaction.
When asked if the only brands not to be involved will be those currently most in difficulty, namely Honda and Yamaha, the Spanish manager finally replied: “It’s correct. As is known, the specification used in the first seasonal event will be frozen and this will have to be maintained until the end, unless you are part of the manufacturers that enjoy concessions. In principle this should be valid for two championships, therefore 2025 and 2026.”
