Barcelona, 2 October 2024 – Monday 30 September the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team received a visit from the Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, who was in Barcelona for the exhibition Ocean&Climate Village.
They were there to welcome her at the base of the Italian challenger Lorenzo BertelliHead of Corporate Social Responsibility del Gruppo Prada e Max SirenSkipper and Team Director of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, together with the Italian Consul in Barcelona, Emanuele Manzitti. Audrey Azoulay congratulated the Youth crew on their recent victory, wishing the women’s team and the entire team the best for the upcoming regattas.
The Ocean&Climate Village is enjoying great successas shown by the numbers one week after opening, which they record around a thousand admissions and over five hundred workshops held by experts from the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. Some workshops are also held on board Cassiopea, the sailboat transformed into a sustainable oceanographic vessel and are curated by the marine biologist and director of the MuMa Museo del Mare Milazzo, Carmelo Isgrò.
The traveling scientific exhibition set up at the Port Olimpic of the Catalan capital until 4 October and supported by the Prada Group as part of the SEA BEYOND project, is also part of the partnership between UNESCO and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and was created to highlight the importance of sustainability in maritime sports and the contribution that the world of sailing can make to ocean scientific research thanks to the collection of precious data. Through educational tools such as infographics, photographs, interactive virtual reality installations and tactile experiences it allows you to explore the complex relationship between the ocean and climatewith particular attention to the fundamental role of the ocean in regulating the climate.
Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO, said: «The America’s Cup is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about ocean protection. I warmly thank the Prada Group for having placed the logo of our joint educational program Sea Beyond on the mainsail of Luna Rossa, which today benefits more than 200 schools in 56 countries and which is destined to expand more and more.”
