The two small and compact classics are reminiscent of the historic Japanese brand Meguro absorbed by Kawasaki in the 1960s. They play everything between style and history, but it’s not certain if they will arrive here in the West

The new Kawasaki Meguro S1 and W230 are a real homage to the Japanese motorcycles of the 50s and 60s. The Meguro motorcycles, in fact, were born way back in 1924 in Japan and for many they are to be considered the true progenitors of the most massive Japanese production of the following decades. Absorbed in the 1960s by Kawasaki which in fact entered the production of motorcycles thanks to this acquisition (before it was “only” a company active in the aeronautical industry) Meguro remained a well-known and remembered brand in Japan, but little known here in the west. The Meguro S1 and W230 follow this theme and offer a round headlight, teardrop tank and spoked wheels, a timeless classic. But these are not simple replicas of the past, Kawasaki wanted to create motorcycles that, while inspired by historical models, offered a modern riding experience. This is why we find a multifunction LCD display that integrates perfectly with the retro style, without distorting the soul of the bike. With a tubular steel frame, traditional shock absorbers and a telescopic fork, the chassis is also a concentrate of classicism… In short… they are motorcycles full of historical significance and for those looking for a simple and authentic riding experience, without too many frills. Yet, the chances that these two models will remain relegated to the eastern territories seem rather high; nostalgia operation for the Asian market only? We will see…
