“Andi and Mentadent have been promoting Prevention Month for 44 years, a very important initiative which this year has been enriched by the collaboration with Fimp paediatricians. A fundamental alliance because it means that we are now able to reach all families Italian schools from an early age to children and to teach them dental prevention methods”. This was said by the national president of Andi (National Association of Italian Dentists), Carlo Ghirlanda, on the occasion of the press conference at Palazzo Montecitorio which kicked off the 44th Dental Prevention Month, which saw the participation of representatives of the institutions, the Andi, of Mentadent and of the Italian Federation of pediatricians.
“The results achieved over the 44 years with the Oral Prevention Month are very important and have provided us with a series of data – adds Ghirlanda – The first is that in 1980, 12-year-old Italian children had around 12 diseased teeth, which were then treated Today, however, they have less than one tooth that is susceptible to pathologies.” Not only that. “At the same time we have data which highlights that over time the attention to prevention is decreasing and this is also in relation to the patient citizen’s ability to spend. A data which has also created attention among our parliamentarians with whom we are looking for a solution”, he concludes.
