Barcelona, 1 October 2024 – Another thrilling day for the many Luna Rossa fanswhich they have celebrated the victory of the second match After the breakup which caused the defeat in the previous regatta. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli demonstrates again the strength of his teamready to unite in difficulties and re-emerge even more determined than before.
The crews engaged in fifth day of the Louis Vuitton Cup finals they still found splendid conditions for AC75 foiling monohullscapable of flying over the water at over 50 knots of speed, pushed by 18 knots of wind from the SW, with gusts exceeding 20, and a wave formed.
After a good start in control of Ineos Britannia and an initial part of the beat in the lead, the Italian boat rounded the first mark behind the British one for just a second, but in the following turn it took a nosedive, sinking the bow into the water and in the impact it damages a fairing (aerodynamic cover) of the deck and the bow wind sensor. Impossible for Luna Rossa to resume the regatta.
Twenty knots of air for Luna Rossa’s redemption match. Thanks to the excellent work of the shore team, able to repair the damage and put the boat in racing condition, the crew led by Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni took advantage right from the start (Ineos Britannia had to pay a penalty for having overshot the boundaries) and leads all the marks, gradually increasing the gap. Even in this regatta there was no shortage of attempts by the British crew to reduce the gap or to put pressure on their opponents with continuous manoeuvres, but Luna Rossa made no mistakes and did not stop covering Ineos Britannia, until they reached the finish line with 16″ of advantage.
Today’s Luna Rossa crew included Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni at the helm with Umberto Molineris and Andrea Tesei as trimmers. As for the cyclors, Enrico Voltolini and Bruno Rosetti played both matches, while Cesare Gabbia and Emanuele Liuzzi alternated with Paolo Simion and Luca Kirwan.
