After the Versys, the Ninja SX also sees the engine move from 1,043 to 1,099 cc and a series of upgrades in equipment. Let’s see them in detail
October 1, 2024
Just five days have passed since we talked about the definitive look of the new Kawasaki Versys 1100, the first motorcycle to inaugurate the innovations expected for 2025 by the Japanese brand. And here we are again gathered around Akashi’s four-cylinder, this time to talk about the new Ninja 1100SX. The Sport Tourer follows its crossover sister in the evolution of the four-cylinder which goes from 1,043 to 1,099 cc. Now stroke and bore are 59 by 77 mm. Power thus rises to 136 HP at 9,000 rpm and torque to 113 Nm at 7,600 rpm. The growth in cubic capacity and torque is accompanied by changes to the gear ratios with longer fifth and sixth gears. We find the Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) which now acts already at 1,500 rpm to allow quicker and smoother shifts even at low rpm.
Comfort and performance
In addition to the technical changes, there is an increase in the equipment which now includes the USB-C socket on the handlebars, cruise control, power modes, the inertial platform, K-TRC traction control and a latest generation Cornering ABS as standard. As with the Versys, the diameter of the rear disc also grows but the only thing that – at least as stated – does not increase is consumption (5.6 L/100 km). As original equipment, the Ninja 1000 SX is offered with Bridgestone Battlax S23, therefore a latest generation tire, in sizes 120/70ZR17M/C (58W) and 190/50ZR17M/C (73W). For the first time, the SE version is also offered on which we find an Öhlins S46 rear shock absorber with remote preload adjustment but also heated grips as standard. The braking system on both SEs features a Brembo radial pump, braided hoses and M4.32 monobloc radial front calipers.
Both versions can connect to the Kawasaki Rideology app which allows you to adjust the bike’s settings, collect information on the
vehicle via your smartphone and view the routes taken on your phone screen. Additionally, for 2025, Rideology is now ready to use voice command, anticipating the next generation of interactivity between bike and rider.
The new Ninja 1100SX is therefore confirmed as one of the last true sports tourers and continues in the tradition of a distinctly sporty but at the same time comfortable motorbike with height-adjustable windshield, matching suitcases and a series of accessories dedicated to those who love to grind a lot kilometers without giving up adrenaline.
