Manuel Neuer’s participation in the Munich away game in Bremen (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) is not yet certain, but the signs are good. The 38-year-old returned to team training on Friday after having to take it easy in recent days. During the press conference, Vincent Kompany announced that he would speak to Neuer after training and then make a decision.
“It was a precautionary measure. Normally he is supposed to train today. We will decide after training. He has a lot of experience, we will just discuss it together. Of course we didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks. But it looks good,” the Belgian explained on Friday afternoon before the training session.
Neuer landed hard on his back during a trip out of the box during the Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb and had to leave the pitch at half-time. However, Bayern officials gave the all-clear after the match on Tuesday.
Sven Ulreich is available as Neuer’s replacement. Bayern’s long-time number two already represented the captain in the second half against Zagreb, while Daniel Peretz is currently out due to injury. However, it looks as though Ulreich will have to settle for a place on the bench again against Werder Bremen. Anything other than Neuer starting from the beginning would be a surprise.
