Although in the Spanish-speaking community, content creators who speak in other languages go more unnoticed, there are still some who manage to break through that language barrier. Examples include IShowSpeed, who recently reached a million live viewers reacting in this way, and MrBeast, the YouTuber with the most subscribers on the platform (316 million).
The American content creator is famous for making contest-style videos, but on a very big scale, investing millions to make each of his tests as eye-catching as possible. In fact, we are sure that many of you remember the video he made with 100 content creators in which Ibai participated and which ElXokas criticized a lot for how little the Basque appeared. What’s more, he was the one who proposed a challenge to Ibai that has led to the series that the streamer is going to premiere soon.
Now, MrBeast appears to be facing a complicated legal situation over the reality show he filmed for Prime Video. Both he and Amazon have been hit with a lawsuit from five anonymous contestants who are seeking to elevate the lawsuit to class action status, claiming that they suffered chronic abuse during the filming of the show in different ways.
MrBeast contestants sue him for non-payment, negligence and other reasons
The American media outlet Variety has been responsible for sharing this information, even attaching a link to a copy of the lawsuit. In it, these five people speak of a large number of actions that encompass “chronic mistreatment”, which is why this appeal has been filed.
To begin with, they stress that minimum wages and overtime were not paid, participants were not given uninterrupted breaks to eat or rest, and contestants were exposed to “dangerous circumstances and conditions as a condition of their employment.” They also allege that they were deprived of medical care, food, sleep, and “basic hygiene needs.”
As if this were not enough, the mistreatment of which the plaintiffs speak also refers to episodes in which sexual harassment was not prevented and to the conditions to which the contestants were subjected, which they claim reached the point of “inflicting emotional distress.”
The lawyers for these contestants have acknowledged that when they signed the contract, they were aware that they were going to face a tough experience, but that reality went beyond that. In fact, they claim that “several contestants ended up hospitalized, while others reported having suffered physical and mental complications due to being subjected to chronic abuse, degradation and, in the case of female contestants, hostile working conditions.”
Variety itself has stated that it has tried to contact representatives from Amazon and MrBeast, but they have refused to comment. The truth is that everything suggests that this project is going ahead, being announced as “the largest live game show in the world.” It remains to be seen whether the lawsuit goes ahead as well.
