The municipality of Staphorst is investigating whether the municipality can partly manage the reception of asylum seekers itself. This has not yet been possible, because everything concerning the reception of asylum seekers is organised exclusively by the COA. In order to adjust the regulation for long-term reception of asylum seekers, the Ministry of Asylum and Migration will have to change the policy. The COA reports that in addition to Staphorst, around ten other municipalities in the Netherlands are considering starting and managing their own asylum seekers’ centre (azc).
