Trump Attack, 12 Hours of Stakeout in the Bushes: Hunt for Routh’s Accomplices. Behind the Scenes of the Capture, a Decisive Woman
Donald Trump is back at the rallies, not even the second assassination attempt in a matter of months has stopped the Republican candidate for the US presidential election next November. Trump spoke at a town hall meeting to fervent supporters in Flint, an industrial city that was once the jewel of the US auto industry in swing state Michigan before factories closed due to foreign competition. The former president drew a link between what the FBI called a foiled assassination attempt against him and his promise to impose heavy tariffs on car imports from Mexico and China. “And then you wonder why they’re shooting at me, right? They only shoot at important presidents,” he said.
Kamala Harris, campaigning in another swing state, Pennsylvania, said she reached out to the former president after the foiled attack. “I wanted to make sure he was OK and I told him what I’ve said publicly: There is no place for political violence in our country,” the Democratic presidential candidate said in an interview with the National Association of Black Journalists. The White House called the conversation “brief and cordial.” “I got a very gracious call from Kamala,” the mogul said at the event, moderated by Arkansas Republican Gov. Huckabee Sanders.
The crowd booed when Trump said the vice president’s name, but he insisted that Harris “couldn’t have been nicer.” The former president also thanked the witness, a woman, who had photographed the license plate of his attacker’s vehicle, expressing his desire to meet her. “Women are smarter than men,” “this woman was incredible, she did an incredible job,” he said. Trump then thanked the Secret Service again: “These guys do a great job. Now they need more people.”
There are still many critical points in the investigation into a possible attack against Donald Trump in West Palm Beach and security is once again on trial. Ryan Routh managed to stay hidden on the golf course for almost 12 hours. No one noticed his presence and the Secret Service admitted that it had not conducted preventive checks. An error perhaps linked to the lack of men or a wrong assessment. Yet, the criticality of the site was known: too large, with vegetation and open roads nearby. Now they are looking not only for possible accomplices but also for a mole, someone close to Trump could be playing a double game. For this reason, the former president has asked for more men to protect him. Congress could authorize new funds, but the situation is not likely to change before the vote.
