American tennis star Coco Gauff and coach Brad Gilbert have ended their partnership, according to a statement from Gilbert on X in which he thanked the 2023 US Open winner. Gauff reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year, but was eliminated in the fourth round of the US Open.
She lost to her compatriot Emma Navarro in New York and shouted at her coach with some frustration during that match. “I thank Coco and the rest of her team for a great summer in 2023 and for fourteen months of incredible teamwork,” Gilbert wrote. “Coco, at twenty, you have a bright future ahead of you. I wish you nothing but success and will myself look for a new chapter in my career as a coach.”
Gauff is ranked No. 6 in the world. Winning the 2023 US Open was her only Grand Slam title to date.
