“I’ve never seen so much crying”: David Harbour teases the end of the fifth season of Stranger Things
The end of the fifth season of Stranger Things receives a new sneak peek from Jim Hopper actor David Harbour, who reveals an immense amount of crying from the cast during a table read. Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, Netflix’s hit horror fantasy returned for season four in 2022, following Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the gang as they confront Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in Hawkins while Hopper struggles with his captivity in a Soviet prison. The fifth season of Stranger Thingswhich is now in production, will end the program sometime next year.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Harbour reveals that a script reading for the series finale has already taken place. Stranger Things. While the actor doesn’t reveal anything major about the final script itself, beyond the fact that it serves as a conclusion «very beautiful» For the series, he does say that it caused a lot of crying among his castmates.
«We just finished reading the last episode and the amount of crying… the episode is so beautiful. But there’s also a deeper level to it, this was actually his childhood. “They were 11 years old and they grew up and fought this monster. And I’ve never seen so much deep crying from teenagers or young adults in my life,” she said.
What Harbour’s Tease Means for Season 5 of Stranger Things
Beyond what the end of season 4 of Stranger Things (i.e. an incursion from the Upside Down into the real world with Hawkins as its epicenter), very little has been officially revealed about Season 5. Harbour’s comment isn’t particularly surprising because, as he says, the series has been a part of their lives for nearly ten years. It’s understandable that there would be a lot of emotion in such a situation, but the crying could also speak to the content of the episode itself.
So far, the Duffers have been reluctant to kill off the main members of the cast of characters from Stranger ThingsAudiences said goodbye to Barb (Shannon Purser) in Season 2, Bob (Sean Astin) in Season 2 and Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) in Season 4, but the central case has largely remained safe, save for Max (Sadie Sink) who was left brain dead in the Season 4 finale. It is possible that season 5 of Stranger Things finally kills off a main character, and that would certainly make the ending an emotional ride.
