On October 13, 2022, the mother stood with her four children at the quay in Kampen. She carried her youngest daughter, almost 19 months old, in a baby carrier on her stomach. She also tied her three-year-old daughter to the front of her body with a cloth. The woman then jumped from the quay into the water with her two young daughters tied to her. The two other children, an eleven-year-old son and a thirteen-year-old daughter, witnessed this. Bystanders pulled the woman and the two youngest children out of the water after a few minutes. When the youngest daughter was pulled out of the water, attempts were made in vain to resuscitate her. She had died.
