After finishing second in the San Marino GP, this weekend Francesco Bagnaia will have the opportunity to make amends in front of his home crowd, aiming to return to the top step of the podium in the Emilia-Romagna GP.
A special event for Pecco and for Ducati, not only because it is the second event of the year on the Riviera Romagnola track, but also because it represents the Piedmontese rider’s hundredth race in MotoGP aboard the Desmosedici GP. On Sunday’s GP, the Borgo Panigale manufacturer will also have the chance to obtain its hundredth success in the premier class of the MotoGP, also playing for the first match point for the victory of the fifth consecutive constructors’ title and the sixth in MotoGP.
There are many reasons to be even more excited for this first stage of the triptych that will take the riders to Japan after having passed through Indonesia and where Bagnaia arrives in second place in the championship, just 7 points behind the leader, Jorge Martin.
“We are back racing in Misano for the second time this year, but compared to two weeks ago the conditions will be quite different. There will be lower temperatures and we are also arriving after a day of testing. Compared to Misano 1 my physical condition is better; therefore, we will start with an advantage compared to last time – Pecco observed – The Emilia-Romagna GP will also be the first appointment of a triple: from here on the season will take on a faster pace and the finale is approaching so it will be even more important to do well in this phase of the Championship”.
Enea Bastianini, fourth in the championship and fresh from the podium obtained in the last San Marino GP, will also try to confirm himself among the great protagonists of the weekend.
“Racing on your home circuit is always something special and this year we are lucky enough to return for the second time,” said the rider from Rimini. “Compared to the GP two weeks ago, this weekend we will find lower temperatures and therefore the track conditions will also be a little different. In the post-race test we managed to find a solution that allowed me to be fast even with the medium rear tyre, which is what we lacked at Misano 1 to try to fight for the win. Let’s see how this weekend goes, but overall I am positive.”
