In 2015, the year he turned 50, a vacancy arose as spokesperson for the then King’s Commissioner in Overijssel: Ank Bijleveld. Menno was asked if that might be something for him. He had come across Bijleveld as a reporter and knew her a little. “I thought: oh, why not? I spoke to her and was hired. Although I really had no idea, really zero, what I was getting into. But it was the best step ever!”
