ROME – “I learned from an agency note that I have left Azione. It is a decision that I was maturing but that I felt the need to make public in more serious and less extemporaneous ways. Already in the last group meeting I had openly expressed my dissent for the opening of an ‘exclusive’ dialogue with the left. I also spoke about it last Friday with Carlo Calenda and a new meeting was scheduled for this evening, then postponed by me to tomorrow”. Thus on Twitter the former minister Mara Carfagna, formalizing her choice to leave Azione, of which she was president.
“The choice to join the candidacies of the broad field in all three Regions where voting takes place is a right of Carlo Calenda: he founded Azione, he carried it forward even with great personal sacrifices, he is its leader. But my history and my ideas prevent me from following him on that path, which as is obvious to everyone preludes more general agreements with the left. I was also thinking of addressing this issue openly in the board meeting called for tomorrow afternoon, in front of the members and managers, whom I also wanted to thank for the collaboration and friendship they have always shown me. The note from Azione, clearly, prevents me from doing so and I am sorry: I have always made my political choices openly”, concludes Carfagna.
