James Cameron’s first film after the completion of Avatar 5. The director of Terminator y Titanic has spent the last few decades working in Avatar and its many sequels, and is committed to completing the third, fourth and fifth installments of the lucrative sci-fi franchise. The next Avatar: Fire and Ash is scheduled to premiere in 2025, while Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 are scheduled for 2029 and 2031 as the story of Pandora and the Na’vi continues.
According to Deadline, Cameron’s first film after Avatar 5 it will be Last Train from Hiroshima. The story is based on the 2015 book of the same name by Charles Pellegrino and Pellegrino’s upcoming book, Ghosts of Hiroshima, which feature eyewitness accounts from Japanese civilians and American pilots who saw the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. Cameron’s film will center on a Japanese man who survives the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima and then boards a train to Nagasaki, only to survive the atomic bomb there as well.
“It’s a subject I’ve always wanted to make a film about and have been struggling for years to figure out how to do it. I met Tsutomu Yamaguchi, a survivor of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a few days before he died. He was in the hospital and he was passing on the baton of his personal story to us, so I have to do it. “I can’t walk away from it,” Cameron said.
What this means for James Cameron’s future
Although Cameron will remain busy with the films Avatar For several years, the director has been firmly committed to creating The last train from HiroshimaThe importance of this film transcends Cameron and his creative interests, as after meeting Yamaguchi, Cameron and Pellegrino promised “to pass on their unique and harrowing experience to future generations.” While Cameron has directed many iconic films, Last Train from Hiroshima is destined to be one of the most important of his career.
However, since Avatar 5 will not be released until 2031 and there is still work to be done in Avatar: Fire and Ash y Avatar 4Cameron will not be able to fully commit to Last Train from Hiroshima in the near future. Between the Avatar sequels and this newly confirmed project, Cameron already has a full slate of films to direct over the next decade. In addition to all these commitments, Cameron previously announced that he was also writing a script for Terminator 7although that film has yet to be officially greenlit.
