We collected the testimony of a pilot who raced in Frohburg in the same IRRC race as Luca Salvadori

With all due caution, we are publishing what an IRRC pilot who saw the terrible accident at Frohburg that cost Luca Salvadori his life told us.
The driver told us that the weather had “not been great this weekend. It was very cold and very windy, so the grip was not great and the wind made everything more difficult. Salvadori was very fast in qualifying in both the Open class and the IRRC. I think he was under the lap record. We should have the first open race this evening.”
Then we went out on the race track but “because of the wind the tyres cooled down a bit and this track doesn’t have many right-hand corners. So the tyre is always quite cold on the right side”.
Regarding the accident, he underlined that at the moment of the impact they were travelling in a group on a right-hand bend at high speed, one competitor had a highside and Salvadori was unfortunately unable to avoid the impact with the motorbike of the fallen rider.
Later and “very quickly” the rescue arrived and the race was interrupted, waiting for the helicopter to arrive and then the pilots resumed the race “when the track was clear”. Unfortunately in the evening the lack of news about Luca was very worrying and on Sunday morning the pilots learned of the tragedy.
“Then we decided to continue racing for Luca. He wanted to race before the accident. So we raced for him. But I can say that it was difficult to receive the news. For me it is the third time that we lose a rider in a serious accident in my 5 years of activity. But we all know the risks and we love what we do. If we wanted to be 100% safe, we should race on the circuit”
Furthermore, the pilot added, “I have to say that the organization did a really good job. They informed everyone what happened, they set up people we could talk to if we needed anything. They wanted our best. Because we are a big family in this IRRC paddock.”
