Over the last few years, the Borussia Mönchengladbach team has always walked onto the pitch at home games to the tune of ‘Elf vom Niederrhein’, thus getting in the mood for the upcoming games.
However, that has now changed. Last weekend, before the duel with VfB Stuttgart (1:3), the song was no longer played when the players came onto the pitch. Instead, ‘Die Seele brennt’ was played. This should make the organized fan scene very happy, as they had been calling for this change for years (via Bild).
This change was originally discussed in the summer of 2019. But after just over a year, this step had to be reversed and the ‘Elf vom Niederrhein’ was played. The reason for this was an ongoing legal dispute over the copyright surrounding the title ‘Die Seele brennt’. But now the song can be played again – which Borussia immediately took advantage of.
Now, according to the Bild the decision: From now on, the Fohlenelf will play ‘Die Seele brennt’ at every home game. From the point of view of the organized fan scene, the song is better suited to illustrate the bond between the team and its supporters. However, the ‘Elf vom Niederrhein’ will not be completely removed from the program. Instead, this song will be played earlier as part of the opening program and of course people will also sing along.
