ROME – “Finally prison for pickpockets who steal by exploiting small children or pregnancy: those who make mistakes pay, from words to deeds!”. This is what the deputy prime minister and secretary of the League said on his social media channels, Matthew Salvini (photo). The Chamber of Deputies has approved Article 15 of the security bill, which makes the postponement of sentences optional and no longer mandatory for pregnant women and mothers with children under one year old.
The opposition amendments were rejected, while the rapporteurs’ amendment was approved, which requires the government to present a report every year on the implementation of precautionary measures against pregnant women and mothers with children under three years of age. In response to this amendment, FI withdrew its proposed amendment, which instead aimed to restore the obligation to defer punishment for mothers with children up to one year old.
