In 2017, FC Bayern opened the FC Bayern Campus in the north of Munich, the home of the youth team and the women’s team. Since then, the champions have played their competitive matches there. The stadium on the campus actually has space for 2,500 people. Due to increased demand, FCB allows more than 4,000 spectators into the stadium for top games. Nevertheless, there are discussions about whether the campus is too small for the Bayern women.
The green AOK Stadium is just a few minutes’ walk from the large Volkswagen Arena. The VfL Wolfsburg women’s team has been playing their home games there since 2015, sharing the pitch with the Wolves’ U19 team. A total of 5,200 fans fit in the stands of the AOK Stadium – 1,700 of which are seats and 3,500 standing.
In the Frankfurt district of Rödelheim, next to the outdoor pool of the same name, you will find the stadium at Brentanobad. The jewel box, as the fans of the Eagles call their home ground, has space for 5,750 people. Compared to the stadiums of the other top clubs, the Brentanobad has more standing room (4,250) than seating (1,500). Even before the merger with Eintracht, 1. FFC Frankfurt played in the stadium at Brentanobad.
In 2013, the women’s team TSG Hoffenheim were promoted to Germany’s top division and have been playing in the Dietmar Hopp Stadium ever since. Before the much larger Rhein-Neckar-Arena was built, the men also played their games in the small stadium. The Dietmar Hopp Stadium has space for 6,350 spectators, 3,000 of whom can sit in seats.
Teams from the Women’s Bundesliga are happy when they can play in the Ulrich Haberland Stadium, the home ground of the Bayer Leverkusen women’s team. The stadium has been awarded the “Pitch of the Year Award” for the fifth time in a row. This means that the Werkself have the most beautiful pitch under their feet. The Ulrich Haberland Stadium has a capacity of 3,200 fans.
For twelve years, SGS Essen has played its home games in the stadium on Hafenstrasse. In addition to SGS, the men’s team of Rot-Weiß Essen also plays in the stadium in the Essen district of Bergeborbeck. So far, the stadium on Hafenstrasse has space for 20,352 spectators, of which 11,320 have been made available for seating. But that’s not enough: The city of Essen and Rot-Weiß Essen want to push ahead with the expansion of the corners of the stadium and thus increase the capacity to 27,000 by 2026/27.
The women of Werder Bremen play on the so-called pitch 11, very close to the Weserstadion. The pitch is surrounded by six athletics tracks. Around pitch 11, 5,500 fans can cheer on their team. However, there are only 300 seats there. So if you visit, you should be prepared to stand for a long time.
Freiburg’s Dreisamstadion is located on the river of the same name – with a few flaws: The pitch is five meters too short and slopes down by one meter from south to north. However, the pitch was voted the second most beautiful in the league. The men’s team played their home games here from 1954 to 2021. The women have now been playing in the historic Dreisamstadion for three years. It has space for 24,000 fans, of which 14,000 are seated and 10,000 are standing.
In addition to the Turbine itself, the Karl Liebknecht Stadium is also rich in tradition. The affectionately named KarLi hosts the Turbine women’s team as well as the home games of the regional league team SV Babelsberg 03. The Karl Liebknecht Stadium has space for 10,786 fans, 2,006 of whom can sit in (partially covered) seats.
In addition to the women’s teams of 1. FC Cologne, the Franz Kremer Stadium in Cologne is also home to the U21, U19 and U17 teams. A total of 5,457 spectators can be seated around the pitch (1,900 covered seats, 3,557 standing places). A turf heating system was installed under the pitch in 2017.
The RB Leipzig women’s team has been playing at the club’s own training center on Cottaweg since last season. The stadium has a total capacity of 2,015 spectators, making it the venue with the smallest capacity in the Women’s Bundesliga.
The newly promoted team from Jena will play their home games in the brand new ad hoc Arena in the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld. The new stadium has a total capacity of 15,100 spectators. The women’s team was already allowed to play a friendly match against VfL Wolfsburg women in the ad hoc Arena at the stadium opening.
